WHO WE ARE

Our Roots, Our ResolveThe African American Work Society was founded with a radical vision: not just to exist, but to lead. We are more than an organization—we are a movement, committed to cultivating generational prosperity, rooted in community, and driven by economic justice. We forge pathways to self-sufficiency, develop emerging leaders, and advocate policies that reflect the lived experiences of our people. With tax-exempt status and a solid organizational backbone, we are stepping into a bold new era—unifying resources, amplifying voices, and extending our global reach.

Robert L. Hollis, Founder & CEO – African American Work Society

I didn’t create this organization to be respectable. I created it to be radical.

The African American Work Society was born from a truth too urgent to ignore: that for generations, Black Americans have been pushed to the margins of the economy, the ballot box, and the policy table—while being told to wait, comply, or adapt. We won’t. Not anymore.

This isn’t just an NGO—it’s a launchpad for self-determination. A system built to unlock power—not through pity or tokenism, but through enterprise, skill, and grit. Every job we create and every business we build is a brick in a blueprint for freedom.

Economic independence is not optional. We exist to build—not just businesses, but dignity. Not just services, but sovereignty. Not just change, but legacy.

If these words light a fire in you, then this movement is yours too. Welcome.
